B-Boy Sketches

I've started drawing, a real new excursion, but good fun. I started drawing b-boys on inkjet paper a couple weeks ago. I got a text from my brother that Pearl Fine Art is having (further) financial problems and a huge sale, so I went down to Canal St. and bought a couple drawing pads.

It's a great exercise for writing, sort of reminds the mind where to be when composing. I know I'm drawing a figure, but I'm not thinking a whole lot about what I want it to look like. I'm sort of just following the line, letting the foot or finger be wherever it's going to be and let the body end up contorting however it's going to contort.

Of course, I wouldn't be the first (on this particular day even) to state the analogs in composition between a drawing and a poem, but it's something I'd always understood only on an intellectual level. I feel like, despite my serious skill deficiencies in drawing, I've learned a lot (or re-learned a lot) about how to let go. what it feels like to feel--to wander your way through with a balance of control, integrity and even wildness.
